Joint Operations Bureau Chief

Chief George R. McDonald is currently Chief, Joint Operations Bureau, Pasco Sheriff’s Office. The Joint Operations Bureau of the Pasco Sheriff’s Office oversees areas that directly connect to the County during critical situations. The Joint Operations Bureau encompasses Emergency Operations, Special Operations, and Communications.

Chief McDonald is a retired U.S. Army Special Forces Colonel and has served in a variety of command, staff and leadership positions throughout his career. He entered military service in 1986, joining the Vermont National Guard as an M-48A5 Armored Crewman. He is a 1988 graduate of Norwich University where he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps serving in Panama. Chief McDonald entered Special Forces in 1993 and served in the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne).

His previous assignments include Director, United States Special Operations Command Wargame Center; Deputy Commander, Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre; Chief of Current Operations (J33), USSOCOM; Director, Military Information Support Operations Command Activation Cell; SOF Advisor to COM IJC and ISAF, Combined Forces Special Operations Command – Afghanistan; Executive Officer, Center for Special Operations, USSOCOM; Chief of Ground, Maritime and Fires Branch (J33), USSOCOM; SOF Information Operations Planner and Team Chief, Joint Information Operations Center; Operations Officer (S-3), 2/1st SFG(A); ARSOF S-3, Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines; Company Commander, C/3/1st SFG(A); Detachment Commander, B/3/1st SFG(A); TAC Officer, Transportation Officer Basic Course; Executive Officer, C/222nd AVN; Assistant Operations Officer (AS-3) and Platoon Leader, 193rd Support Battalion.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from Norwich University and a Masters of Arts degree in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School. Colonel McDonald also studied at the Indonesian Army Command and Staff School in Bandung, Indonesia. He has been awarded numerous Joint, Army and foreign decorations, and earned the Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, and Combat Diver Badge. He has participated in combat operations in Panama, the Philippines, Iraq and Afghanistan.
