When growing up in New Port Richey, James knew that by becoming a law enforcement officer he could make a difference in his community. James started at the Pasco Sheriff’s Office in 2001 having previously worked for the State of Florida (1992-1996) as a special agent and as a Senior Police Officer (1996-2001) with the Temple Terrace Police Department. James began his career with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office in Patrol on the West side of the county. James immediately began volunteering his time in efforts to make the neighborhoods he worked in a better place. His interest in mentoring youth brought him to J.W. Mitchell High School as a School Resource Officer/
James then spent time as a Property Crimes Detective who specialized in Burglaries and Auto Thefts. James partnered with Detective Jim Gariepy (Retired) and then Detective Jeff Peake (now Major) in bringing numerous burglars and thieves to justice and in many cases provided relief and closure to the victims of crimes. James was chosen to become a detective within the Professional Standards Unit/ Internal Affairs and spent many years within the unit before being promoted to a Patrol Sergeant within District 3/
James became the Inspector of the Professional Standards Unit/Internal Affairs and during his tenure he served on the executive board of the National Internal Affairs Investigators Association. During his tenure on the executive board he served as 2nd Vice President and President of the National Internal Affairs Investigators Association.
James served as a Captain since 2011 in the following capacities: Strategic Services Bureau, District III/Patrol/
James was promoted to Major in October of 2017!
Major Mallo is a board member with the following associations: Leadership Pasco (Alumni 2012 – “you can’t out do the class of 1-2!”) Metropolitan Ministries Advisory Board, Youth and Family Alternatives Board of Directors, and the Rap River Run Steering Committee. James is also the Past-President of Pasco Safety Town.
Major Mallo is a graduate of the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, Session #258. He also earned a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of South Florida – Cohort #9. James is an extremely proud member of the Trinity Rotary. James enjoys spending time away from work volunteering throughout the community. James has been married to his devoted wife of 22 years, he has high school aged twins, and a French bulldog that thinks it is a Jack Russell Terrier!
