Uniform Crime Statistics Pasco Sheriff’s Office
Through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR), the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the FBI collects the total number of murders, forcible sex crimes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larcenies/thefts, motor vehicle thefts and arsons from law enforcement agencies nationwide. Crime volume and crime rate is based upon the first seven offenses, known collectively as “index crimes” (arson is not an index crime but is collected simultaneously).
Under UCR, only the highest-ranking offense is reported for each incident involving multiple crimes. Clearances refer to crimes solved either by arrest or certain other actions. Many factors influence crime rates and increases or decreases, including community demographics, commercial or residential development, population changes, and even environmental and seasonal factors. Therefore, care should be taken in comparing different agencies, jurisdictions or subsequent years
Also note that the Sheriff’s Office reports criminal offenses and arrests occurring within the county, but outside the limits of incorporated cities. Police departments are responsible for reporting arrests and crimes occurring within city limits. The data in the above chart represents unincorporated Pasco County.
