Pasco Sheriff Bob White is pleased to announce the donation to our agency of four Mules, or Kawasaki utility four-wheel drive vehicles, by Gulf Coast Equipment and Rental in Land O' Lakes. The Mules will be donated for a period of 11 months for use at the Land O' Lakes Detention Center inmate farm. The Sheriff's Office will be responsible for routine maintenance for the vehicles.

Common uses for the utility vehicles will be for harvesting crops, transporting inmates, and other general farming activities. The Pasco Sheriff's Office has an inmate farm that includes both soil and hydroponic vegetable gardens, and pigs. Inmate trustees work on the farms and the produce is utilized in the jail food services program.

According to Lt. Ray Revell, inmate labor supervisor, the Mules will be an important addition to the agricultural programs currently offered to trustee inmates. "In these trying economic times, we appreciate the support from business leaders such as Gulf Coast Equipment and Rental. These vehicles will provide a unique resource for the Sheriff's Office to use for not only our inmate programs, but any emergency situation where an all-terrain vehicle is needed."
