Explorer Post 916
The Pasco Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 916 is chartered by the Boy Scouts of America and is designed to allow young people from 14 to 21 years old to explore the career of law enforcement. Explorers receive training in all aspects of law enforcement and Sheriff's Office operations. They also provide volunteer service to various components of the agency, and assist with numerous community events such as fairs, parades and rodeos. Highlights of the Explorer Program include the privilege of riding on patrol with deputies and participating in the annual statewide Explorer competition. Explorers are issued a uniform and equipment and attend weekly meetings. For more information on the Explorer Post, contact your school resource officer, or call 813-929-1380. Pasco Explorer Unit 916 was selected as the best unit in the state in 2001, runner-up in 2003, and finished third in both 2006 and 2007 (link to 2007 competition results). Approximately 40 members comprise the unit, which is designed to teach young people between the ages of 14 and 21 about a law enforcement career. The unit is supervised by Senior Advisor Cpl. The Pasco Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 916 has been approved to assist Sheriff's Office members during natural disasters such as hurricanes. The Explorer Response Team will be assisting deputies assigned to work at approved hurricane shelters. The Explorers' training included: A review of Sheriff's Office General Order 46.1.1 regarding hurricane plans; attending a Red Cross Shelter training program; and touring a local shelter to see how they are operated. The program is voluntary and each parent approved their son or daughter to participate.
