Gun Buyback a Success

Pasco residents disposed of their unwanted guns and ammunition at the Pasco Sheriff's gun buyback program June 28 at the Jasmine Lakes Civic Association. Citizens received a $25 merchant gift card in return for their guns and ammo.

Sheriff's deputies and volunteers from the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association coordinated the gun buyback. Sixty-four guns and nearly 50 pounds of ammo were taken in during the event. The guns are logged in and will eventually be destroyed along with other guns turned in to the Sheriff's Office or confiscated in the investigation of crimes.

"It's a public service to get these unwanted guns out of people's houses," said Cpl. Dan Dede. "None of these guns make it back out on the street."
